Pole fault!

Using the club poles to poke models out of trees is a quite a common occurrence. So much so that it hardly deserves a mention on the forum. However, this one was a bit different.

There were a number of members helping to get Gordon's model out of a tree, and lots of advice and encouragement was given to whoever was the the pole pusher at any particular moment. Thus the pole pushers performed their task with great enthusiasm. So much so that the model was well and truly 'speared' by the pole! Unfortunately, having been speared, the model and the pole became quite attached to each other. When an attempt was made to remove the pole ready for another pole pusher, part of the pole stayed attached to the model while the other part fell to the ground. Obviously the part of the pole which fell to the ground was now not long enough to reach the model. In fact it was not long enough to reach the part of the pole which was still attached to the model. After a lot of high level decision making it was decided to send someone for another section of pole so that we could remove that part of the pole which was still attached to the model.

We believe this is the first instance of a pole being used to remove a pole from a tree!

I'm sure that you will be relieved to know that eventually the model and all poles were returned to the ground, although the Safety Officer was lucky not to be rendered unconscious by one part of the pole which fell to earth without warning!
