Gordon Quinney

There are times when life reminds you that there are more important things than flying model aeroplanes in a farmer's field.

One of those times was Tuesday 11th July 2023.

It was a a great shock to receive a message from Gordon Quinney's son that Gordon had died suddenly that morning.

Only last Sunday Gordon was helping me with a recently modified glider.

I am not the only member of SMFC who has had the benefit of Gordon's experience. His advice was always given with grace and good humour. He will be sorely missed.

I still can't quite believe that we won't see him at the field again.

I have lost a friend. I'm sure other members of SMFC feel the same.

Gordon recently started a gliding endurance competition for club members. I'm sure he would want it to continue.

He mentioned to me that a small cup would be presented to the overall winner of the competition at the end of the year.

I wonder if we should continue the competition and award the 'Gordon Quinney Cup' to the winner.
