Excellent Turnout!

I guess it was down to the thought that there weren't going to be many flying days left before winter really sets in, but on Sunday 14th November there was quite a good turnout!

The weather wasn't the best, it was a bit cloudy and dull but at least it was a bit 'breezy' rather than the wind which sometimes howls around the field. The temperature was a bit low which meant that most flyers were well wrapped. Later in the day there was a period of clear blue sky and sunshine which meant that the low sun could cause a problem if you were silly enough to fly in that direction, but it kept the chills at bay!

The rain kept away on the day, but rain from previous days had made the ground quite soft. This caused a slight problem for Campervan Dave who's campervan turned out not to like the soft ground and needed a push from a number of flyers to get it parked in the appropriate place.

There were so many flyers that the strip was quite congested at times.

There were a number of minor 'events' on this busy day. Mel's Lidl glider went a bit unstable and bent a wing, one of Scott's creations looked as though it didn't like flying, Chris's model threw a prop and then dived in to the ground and strangely my Easystreet ejected three of the four screws that held the cowl on, but when Mel challenged us to try to get a model in to a flat spin I duly obliged. It wasn't really a flat spin, more like an uncontrolled spiral which ended in the field over the river. Fortunately I was wearing proper wellies so getting across the river was no problem. There was very minor damage to my 'wing' but it brought the day to a close!

It was good to see so many people getting some flying in before the end of the year. Let's hope it continues!
