The British Model Flying Association

The BMFA launched it`s new membership platform, it gives the individual member control over the management of his own membership details and data and also gives the ability to renew BMFA membership and make payment to them online.

The BMFA has sent an email to each of it`s members which gives an explanation of this and the email also contains a link which must be used in order to create a new password. Using this password will allow the individual access to the new membership system and amend his or her membership details, and to renew BMFA membership etc.

It is important that you use this facility, as due to changes in the data protection laws it is only the individual that can make changes to their membership profile, it is in your own interest to make sure your membership profile is correct and up to date.

Solihull Model Flying Club will still retain the ability to renew the BMFA membership on behalf of any of it`s members, so you still have the option to continue paying for both SMFC and BMFA membership through the club as you have in the past.

In the near future the BMFA plans to expand their new membership system, this will allow individual clubs to keep their own data online and so bringing the club into line regarding the new data protection laws.
This means that data on any individual member will no longer be kept by local club officials, instead it will be securely stored on the BMFA system and the data can only be changed or updated by the individual concerned.
This expansion of the system will also allow individual members to not only renew their BMFA membership online but also their membership of SMFC.
However I do not think these upgrades will be ready in time for this years round of membership renewals, therefore for the next membership renewal you have the choice of either:

1. Renewing BMFA membership through the BMFA membership website and then renewing the SMFC membership through the club Treasurer.
or
2. Renewing both the BMFA and the SMFC membership through the club Treasurer.

If you have not received an email from the BMFA concerning this then I can only suggest that you telephone them, it may be that your membership details are incorrect and they have the wrong email address for you.
If any of this is unclear to you then please ask me via email and I will do my best to find an answer.

Regards,
Mel Jones
